We’ve recently heard feedback about how it can be difficult to work with a student with attention concerns. The first tip addresses that issue. The second tip explains one way we can help transform our choppy readers to smooth, fluent readers! Give these a try!
1. For students with attention issues, it may be effective to offer your student some options throughout the session (i.e. which order to do your agenda items, which book to read that session, etc). Choice increases motivation.
2. To help a student learn how to read with proper expression, try reading a sentence or paragraph at the same time as your student (choral reading).
