Let your Volunteer Coordinator know how it goes trying out one or both of these strategies:

  1.  For a student with attention problems, try doing 5-10 different and short activities instead of just reading a book and answering questions each session.
  2. To teach a new sound, write 4 or 5 words that use that sound and see if your student can detect the pattern and the sound it makes (e.g. rain, aim, wait, train = “ai” is in all words and it seems to make long a sound).
